Introduction To Our Seniors Section

(Revised 10-02-2009)

The Seniors Section of Spalding Golf Club was formed in 1981. The Seniors Section Rules were established by the Seniors Committee and we are pleased to observe them for the benefit of all members of the Spalding Golf Club.

Over the years we have established close relationships with a number of other clubs with whom we now have matches on a regular basis. Matches also take place with the 3rd Team and the Ladies Section.

The Section has a monthly competition which wherever possible is a qualifying competition for handicapping purposes and it also has an extra monthly competition testing the teamwork skills of members in less formal situations. There are also two knockout competitions in the summer months for the Le Sage Trophies (Singles and Pairs) and a Winter League pairs competition running from October to February.

The Annual General Meeting takes place on the 3rd Thursday in November and is preceded by a 13 hole team competition.

The Annual Charity Open Day competition is held in the last week in May and a members Invitation Day is held towards the end of July each year.

Where possible an Exchange Day with the Seniors Section of another club is held yearly.

Financial Matters

The annual subscription for the Section is £3. There is no fee for playing in home matches except for the price of the meal. It is customary for members to purchase drinks for the visiting players.

By tradition there is a £1 levy taken from each member playing in an away match. This goes towards the provision of a half way house for each home match.

The Annual Open Day is usually a Charity Open Day where the Captain will decide which charity will benefit from the profits. In addition, some of the surplus from the monthly raffles will go into that years charity fund.

Mobile Phone

The Section has a mobile phone for members to ring to check that a competition is going ahead if there is some doubt about weather conditions. It will be switched on by the Starter at 07.30 on the day of the competition.

Mobile Number -  07908 855559

Half Way House

This facility was donated in part by the widow of one of the members, and we use it for our home matches. It needs to be staffed and we look to members who play matches to take their turn in this task say once a season. It is not very onerous, only lasts about 3 hours, and can be most enjoyable on a nice summers day.
